Wakefield City Gala - A Brilliant Day for Stanningley Albion JFC Girls

What a fantastic day it was at the Wakefield City Gala for our Stanningley Albion JFC girls, who showed skill, resilience, and just how far they’ve come this season.

Group Stage

We kicked off the day against a strong and well organised Hunslet side. The girls held their own brilliantly, showing confidence on the ball and playing some impressive football. It was a challenging start, but they kept their heads up and showed real determination throughout.

In the second match, the team faced Ossett, an opponent we’ve battled closely with in previous games. From the first whistle, the girls looked sharp and composed. A fantastic finish from Mya, after a well-worked team move, gave us a well earned win and a real boost of momentum.

Our final group game was against Sherburn, another team we’ve encountered this season. The girls kept their focus and once again delivered a great performance. Layla took control of the game with a brilliant solo run, carrying the ball most of the length of the pitch before calmly slotting it home. It was a moment of individual brilliance that capped off a strong group stage.

Playoffs

Finishing second in our group meant a place in the championship playoffs, where we came up against Golcar. The girls found themselves behind early on but didn’t let their heads drop. They fought back with determination, and Layla pulled one back with a composed finish, showing real quality under pressure. Although we couldn’t quite turn the game around, the girls battled until the final whistle and showed real heart.

Pride All Around

We couldn’t be prouder of this group. Every player gave absolutely everything and showed just how far they’ve progressed in recent months. This was an Under-12s tournament, and while many of our girls are still developing at this level, they stepped up and proved how capable and talented they are.

Thank you to all the parents and supporters who came out in numbers - your encouragement makes a huge difference. And most of all, a huge well done to the players for representing the club with pride, passion, and teamwork. The future is bright for this squad, and we can’t wait to see what’s next!
