The reds faced a difficult away trip to Rothwell just days after the cup final debacle.
The reds started well and passed the ball round confidently but the opening goal came for the hosts. a through ball behind the defence saw the striker race through and lob the on rushing keeper. The reds continued to play knowing a goal would come and it did. a great corner from kayle and liam headed home. Soon after Liam was the villain giving away a penalty which was dispatched well into the corner. The reds continued to play and the equaliser again came for the reds. this time it was ben p who finished a good move to equaliser before half time.
The Reds knew they needed 5 points from 3 games and 1 point wouldnt be enough here. The reds came out fighing and dominated the second half. Kayle missed chances and then popped up with a screamer from the edge of the box, more sloppy defending led to an equlaiser for the hosts. Luke S then finally scored and could have walked away with the match ball on a different day. Andrew then added a 5th to make it 5-3 and put daylight between the teams.
However, nerves set in for the reds and a further penalty was given to the hosts but this time the striker blazed over. Rothwell didscore again before the end of the game to make it 4-5 and provide a squeakybum final few minutes.
The reds held out and got the 3 points they wereafter today. Well done boys. Great attacking but some sloppy defending could become our downfall. we need to ensure we have a strongbase to build on.
That said we are 2 points from being champions so the pressure is now on Chapletown who play Ossett on Thursday night whocan still overtake them for second spot. A chapletown winner will set up a great clash on sunday when they face us. Lose on thursday and we are champions!
