First v Second in crucial tie

First v Second in crucial tie

steve talbot29 Jan 2012 - 20:46

Both teams were unbeaten at the start of the day in a title 6 pointer.

After many missed matches for both teams due to frost and rain, the reds were finally getting their second game of 2012 against their title rivals Ossett who were also unbeaten. The home tie ended in a 1-1 draw and the reds knew they were going to be in for a tough game.

The game got even tougher for the reds before kick off, Andrew (although he turned up to try)was unable to play as a persistent knee injury stopped him playing, a great player who we cant wait to get back playing, Reece was out due to illness, new signing kaylan was injured and top stiker Kayle was having fish and chips in Whitby.

This meant changes for the Reds, Connor moved to left back (never played here before), liam pushed up to left wing to give us natural width and versatile matty played up top with ben in an unfamilier role.

The reds however showed all their talent and ability by bossing a first half and creating many chances but were unable to score as the Ossett keeper was in inspired form. The team were passing and moving the ball with some style. The opening goal however came from the hosts, a quic break away saw the winger get a good shot away, the ball bounce just in front of Musa who did well and parried the ball away from goal, however, the other winger read the play well and ran in to fire home the opener, 1 nil at half time.

Was this the time that saw the reds top spot slip away, well no. The reds came out and kept of playing some amazing football. they finally got the equaliser when a mistake in defence was pounced upon by Luke to smash home the equaliser, soon after a similar mistake in the Ossett bac line led the ball to land at the feet of Tom, making his second debut for the Reds, who cooly fired home what looked like the winner. However, more drama, great work by connor to get back and tackle the winger on the edge of the area, in true red fashion we tried to play from the back, but unfortunatley we lost the ball close to our box, the ossett play left one of the centre backs slipping, moved inside, beat the next defender and then curled home an unstoppable shot, a real calm head when many could have snatched at it. It looked like the game would end a draw, but no the reds were having none of it. Again they went on the attack and created chances, the ball was then swung into the box, the keeper came out but it was liam first to the ball to poke home the winner with just minutes to play. The reds celebrated with even the subs running on to join in. the final whistle came and the reds were overjoyed with a great win.

Credit needs to go to both sides who played out a game of football for the purists, this could have been Barcelona v Arsenal as both sides tried to play football, played the game in a sporting manner and had great respect for each other. The reds were amazing today and played some of the best football i have seen, with drive passion and ability, well done lads you made a coach very proud today. Keep up the good work and mae sure you dont slip up next week in the cup. The missing lads are going to find it hard to win their places bac after this performance.

Well done
